``AVON -- For the second time in two weeks, Fairview's defense has stepped up to answer the call as the Warriors blanked host Avon, 28-0, last night.

... with 7:41 remaining in the first half, ... junior defensive back Scott Suttle intercepted a pass by Avon quarterback Chad Stencil, giving Fairview a first down on the Eagles' 42 ...

"That interception killed what little momentum we had going at that point," said Avon coach Lee Powell. "We took over possession at our own 4, and we were heading toward midfield when they picked it off."

Fairview's second lift came with 1:02 left in the half when Avon punter Jason O'Rourke was forced to kick from his 7, and the kick went out of bounds on the Eagles' 32 ...

"Let's face it, (the Warriors) were the more physical team out there tonight, and they took charge of things from that point on," Powell said. "I'm not down on my kids, they tried hard, and I saw a lot of good things, but I'm not happy with the outcome on the scoreboard. We've got some wounded pride." ... ''
