President Ralph White called the April 1, 2015 meeting of the Avon Historical Society to order at 7:00 p.m. The minutes of the March 4, 2015 were approved as read with Jim Szippl making the motion and Dan McGhee seconding.
12 members and 13 guests were present.
Treasurer Christine White reported a balance of $5,115.90 in the checking account. There were no outstanding bills to present.
In old business:
The City reimbursed us $484 for the cost of the furnace repair.
The water was turned back on and a new meter installed. There were no leaks and the bathroom is in working order.
There will no longer be a February meeting. Beginning in 2016, we will have a meeting in June instead.
In new business:
Christine White made a motion to have Jean Fischer fill Bill Furnas'trustee seat. Theresa Szippl seconded and the motion passed.
Jack Smith made a motion to approve the purchase of 8 totes at approx $10 each to store the Society's archives. Nancy McGhee seconded and the motion passed.
Matt Smith reported that there was a brainstorming session at the Landmark's Preservation Commission meeting in March for ideas of pictures- people, places, etc.
After speaking with the City's Service Director, Ralph White reported that there will be a new flag pole and flag for the Town Hall.
Ralph also reported that the City will trim the tree planted by Dr. Fischer within the next two weeks at their expense.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:15 with Jim Szipple making the motion and Dan McGhee seconding.
Ralph introduced the evening's speaker, Dr Eddie Herdendorf with his program on Exploring Crimea and the Black Sea.
The next meeting of the Avon Historical Society will be held at 7 pm on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at the home of Barb and Dave Linton. 37821 Detroit Road, Avon. Invitation to this meeting is for historical society members only and not the general public.
