Wed March 4, 2015 AVON HISTORICAL SOCIETY MINUTES

President Ralph White called the March 4, 2015 meeting of the Avon Historical Society to order at 7:00 p.m. The minutes of the February 4, 2015 were approved as read with Jack Smith making the motion and Theresa Szippl seconding.

17 members and guests were present.

Treasurer Christine White reported a balance of $5,138.70 in the checking account.

Unexpected furnace repairs and insurance premiums would take the balance below the $5000 minimum to remain free from fees. There was discussion about having the account changed to non-interest bearing in order to avoid fees.

    In old business:

Mitchell's 1 Hour Heating repaired Town Hall furnace for $ 484. THis prompted discussion about seeing if the City would reimburse the cost. Ralph is to look into.

The water is still shut off at the street, a new water meter has been installed and the water will be turned back on in a few weeks.

    In new business:

Bill Furnas passed away on Monday Feb 16 at the age of 91. There was discussion regarding donating a book to the Avon Library in his name. Jean Fischer will take care of this.

There was a motion to accept nominations to fill Bill's trustee position. To be done at the April meeting.

There was a motion tabled until April to purchase storage totes for preserving the Society's archives, records, etc. Christine to prepare a list of how many are needed and approximate costs.

There was a motion by Jack Smith to eliminate the February meeting due to weather and add June to the monthly scheuled meetings instead. Stan seconded and the motion was passed.

Matt Smith reported there were no updated to the History Walk Project until the weather breaks.

Ralph reported on the Landmarks Preservation Commission that a demolition permit was approved for the Frank Pickering house on Detroit Road.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:15 with Jack Smith making the motion and Marion seconding.

Ralph introduced the evening's speaker, Colonel Matt Nahorn on the New Indian Ridge Museum.

The next meeting of the Avon Historical Society will be held at 7 pm on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at the Old Town Hall of 1871, southeast corner of Detroit and Stoney Ridge.

    Respectfully submitted, Christine White.
