Dear Friends,

The Avon Historical Society invites you to join in our activities. We want to thank all who participated in the dedication of the marker honoring Dr. Norton S. Townshend and, also, in the InterSociety meeting which Avon hosted in June.

We need your suggestions for some "dramatic" displays that would represent Avon in 2003 during the Ohio Bicentennial Celebration. The Lorain County Metroparks has offered the French Creek Nature Center and their assistance in creating an exciting Lorain County panorama.

It has been suggested that Avon could show a manure spreader with a shellac coated load, or a stump in the process of being dynamited. Write down your ideas and bring them to our first fall meeting on 9-11-01 at 7 pm in the Old Town Hall of 1871, corner of Detroit and Stoney Ridge.

Here is our program schedule through December, 2001:

September 11 at 7pm CANCELLED-- a presentation on "Approaches to Preserving Historic Structures in Avon." The panelists are Fred Holycross, Director of Preservation Resource Center (a program of the Cleveland Restoration Society), Jack Kilroy, Avon Councilman from the Fourth Ward, and Jim Rokakis, Cuyahoga County Treasurer. (Tuesday, 9-11-01)

The Avon Planning Commission has asked the Historical Society to propose an ordinance to establish a historical overlay zoning classification. We have also been asked to recommend interior decorations for Avon's municipal buildings. Write, call, or come to the meetings with your ideas.
