1964 - 40th Year - 2004
That time of the year again when we ask for your membership renewal and your continued support of the Avon Historical Society.
PERSONAL: I sincerely appreciate your kind thoughts, calls, cards and prayers during my recent "cardiac episode" in mid May. WIth the help of "modern medicine", I have been tuned up, rebuilt and now functioning again. I feel like the old Timex line - "It takes a licking but keeps on ticking".
ATTENTION: By vote in Spring, our meeting night has been changed from the first Monday to the FIRST WEDNESDAY of the month. This will give some of our members the chance to follow City Council in work and regular sessions on Monday nights. On the other hand, city officials might attend our meetings to learn more about historic Avon.
LOCATION: All meetings (with exceptions as below) held at the OLD TOWN HALL OF 1871, corner of Detroit and Stoney Ridge Roads, time is 7:00 P.M., although there are no demerits if you are late. Our parking lot is small but parking available at Smitty's barber shop, the Country Store, the restaurant lot across the street and behind Blue Chip. If these lots are completely full, notify me personally. Such a problem would be a delight!
WED. SEPT. 1 - Organizational meeting for the year. A review of what was accomplished, the projects still pending and most important- the new things to be done. Social hour with coffee & cookies.
SUN. SEPT.19 - That open house tour of the Cahoon House for members. (Health and weather allowing). You will be contacted by phone. Please RSVP. 2:00 - 4:30 P.M.
WED. OCT. 6 - Kathrin Donnatucci - THE BICENTENNIAL BARNS OF OHIO.
WED. NOV. 3 - Our favorite Millie Arthrell - CIVIL WAR GENERAL McPHERSON.
WED. DEC. 1 - ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP CHRISTMAS PARTY. You will be called and please RSVP.
WED. JAN. 3 - 2005 - No regular meeting proposed. Too much ice and snow in Northeast Ohio. If it's 60-70 degrees (global warming) you will recieve notice of a special meeting this month.
POSTSCRIPT: Our four historic Avon videotapes are available. Call if you would like to preview or set up a program for your group or organization. Also available are Rose Mitock's signed and numbered prints of her paintings of the WIlford Hotel, the Old Mill and Kelling Barn. This is quite a fundraiser for us. Rose takes only the cost and donates the rest to the Historical Society.
After we moved here and joined the Historical Society, my goal was to get 10% pf our population, old timers and newcomers, interested and supportive of our great historic Avon. Never have quite reached that goal. If you have a neighbor, relative or friend that should be in the group, please send name and address and I will do the pitch work.
Just thought of two more places to park. First, on the driveway in front of the old fire station behind the Old Town Hall. Second, on Church Street, between Buck's and the new Gazebo park. A stroll through the park and you're there. If you are using these spots, we will be SRO at the meeting!
Sincerely yours, Dr. Delbert Fischer, Membership Chairman
