AVON -- After months of renovation, the Nemo Grille in Avon is finally open for business. The upscale 60-seat Italian/American restaurant located at 36976 Detroit Rd. in Avon's historic French Creek District, began serving dinner last week to patrons in numbers exceeding expectations.

Niemojewski, along with her chef/owner husband Bob, and a host of Rak relatives, renovated the century home which dates back to 1850 when Clemens Alten moved his family to the lands of the Western Reserve. We wanted the place to have a fresh look. We understand Avon is well known for its antiques, but we wanted to give customers a different feel, Neimojewski said. It's a very colorful, sleek looking place. Not much clutter.
The menu offers diners a variety of classic Italian dishes, as well traditional American fare. Items include lasagna (made with homemade pasta), seafood linguini, spaghetti parmigiana, filet mignon, salmon filet, veal porterhouse and grilled lamb loin. Appetizers include grilled shrimp, mussels, roasted portabella, and seared bacon wrapped sea scallops. The dessert menu includes homemade crème brulee, carrot cake and cheesecake ...

When looking for a location to open their first restaurant, the North Ridgeville residents chose Avon because it was close to home and the building had character. The entire Rak family will help run the restaurant. Niemojewski's twin sister, Debbie, and mother, Linda, will fill-in on hostess duties; another sister, Vicky Cagnina, will work as a server, and father, Norm, will tend bar.
This is truly a family undertaking and I m looking forward to it, Niemojewski said. Everyone has been very supportive of what my husband and I are doing. After my husband worked eight years at the Portofino, we wanted to do something on our own." ... ''
The restaurant is open for dinner Monday through Thursday, 5:00-10:00 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays from 5:00-11:00 p.m. Closed Sunday. Reservations are preferred by calling 934-0061.
