Co-ed volleyball registration

Those interested in playing adult co-ed volleyball on Sunday nights can register now. The season starts Oct. 1 and goes to Dec. 17. The cost per team is $225 plus $5 for every non-city resident. Half the team roster must be Avon residents or those who work in the city. Call Recreation Coordinator Donna Russian at 934-5044 to register. Registration must be completed by Sept. 15.

Hoop it up on Sundays

Men's basketball games will be played Oct. 1 to Dec. 17 on Sunday afternoons. The cost to register a team is $210 plus $5 for every non-resident. At least half the team roster must live or work in Avon. To register, contact Donna Russian, recreation coordinator, at 934-5044. Registration is due by Sept. 8.

Preschool club membership drive

The Avon Preschool Parents Club is holding a membership drive today from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Schwartz Road Park. Enjoy refreshments and there will be entertainment for kids, finger printing by the Avon police and a visit by the Avon Fire Department with some of their engines. The club is for parents of children up to age 6 and is a great way to meet other families and have year-round activities.

Activities at the library

Toddlers can have some fun time at the Avon Branch Library on Thursday, Aug. 17 at 10:30 a.m. Later in the day, the Young Adult Book Discussion Group will meet at 3:30 p.m. Registration is required. Call 934-4743. You can also visit the Lorain Public Library website at www.lorain.lib.oh.us.

School starts soon

School resumes for Avon public school students on Friday, Aug. 25. Orientation for ninth grade students and high school students new to the district will be Aug. 22 from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the high school.

Annual antique and fall festival

The Country Living and Antique Fall Festival in the French Creek District will be held Saturday, Sept. 9 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sept. 10 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The French Creek District is on SR 254, SR 611 and Stoney Ridge Road. There will be crafts, food, entertainment and sidewalk sales. Crafters are also needed. For information, contact Lois Shinko at 937-5204 or 934-6119
