Booster club tailgate party

Avon Athletic Booster Club will hold a tailgate party tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. at Avon Middle School.

Club will make wreaths

The Avon Research Club will meet Friday, Oct. 13 at 1 p.m. for an afternoon of wreath making at the Avon Branch Library, under the direction of Susan Jaworowski.

Four-part genealogy program

A four-part genealogy program will begin at Avon Branch Library on Saturday, Oct. 7 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This will be an opportunity for people interested in knowing how to trace family roots to get ideas and opportunities in the field. Registration can be made by calling 934-4743. On Friday, the library will be closed due to staff training.

VFW and auxiliary meetings

The Avon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7035 will meet in the post home, 35960 Mills Road, Thursday, Oct. 12 at 8 p.m. The Women's Auxiliary will meet Monday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m.

Fall rummage sale

The fall rummage sale at the Avon United Methodist Church will be held Friday, Oct. 13, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 14, 9 a.m. to noon. There will be usable tools, toys, household items and clean clothing. There will also be coffee and desserts. The church will be open mornings on the week of Oct. 9 for people bringing in items for the sale.

Laura D. Perez of Avon wins scholarship

Laura D. Perez is the 2000 Avon Junior Women's Club Scholarship Winner.

A Bowling Green State University graduate, Ms. Perez is working on her master's degree at Cleveland State University, specializing in moderate/severe special education.

The scholarship is offered yearly to women living within Avon attending college.

Vacancy on Library Board of Trustees

There is a vacancy on the Board of Trustees of the Lorain Public Library System for the Avon Library branch.

Applications are available at the check-out desk of the Avon Branch Library, 37485 Harvest Drive.

Deadline to submit an application is Nov. 1.

Applicants may drop off or mail it to: Lorain Public Library, Administrative Office, 351 Sixth St., Lorain 44052.

Residents of Avon are eligible to apply.

Appointment to the board will be for the rest of the seven-year term ending Dec. 31, 2001.

The library board has seven members and meetings are usually held on the third Thursday of the month at 5 p.m.

Rummage and bake sale

The Faith Lutheran Church ladies will hold a one-day fall bake and rummage sale on Thursday, Oct. 5 from 9 am. to 3 p.m. in the church auditorium, 2265 Garden Drive. There will be homemade pastries, as well as a large variety of household goods and clothing.
