It's band tag day
The Avon High School Marching Band will canvass the city for donations on Tag Day, Saturday, Nov. 11. This annual fund-raiser will benefit band students in grades 5 through 12. Students will be wearing their purple band uniform parkas, to hand out band booster tags.
For anyone not at home on Tag Day, donations can be mailed to Avon Band Boosters, P.O. Box 169, Avon 44011. For more information, contact Barb Hoban at 327-0816.
Knights' turkey raffle
Knights of Columbus, 1783 Moore Road, Avon, will be holding a turkey raffle of Thursday, Nov. 16, at 7 p.m., sponsored by Father Ragan Council. Admission is $2. There will be free refreshments and door prizes. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., with raffles beginning at 7 p.m.

Here's what's cooking in the Avon city schools from Thursday, Nov. 9, through Thursday, Nov. 16:
Avon East and village elementary:
-- Thursday: Cheesy chicken and rice, buttered broccoli, roll and butter, cherry shape up
-- Friday: Crisp taco, rice and beans, pineapple tidbits
-- Monday: Dippers and sauce, tator tots, mixed fruit
-- Tuesday: Pasta and meat sauce, bread stick, tossed salad, cinnamon pears, peanut butter cookie
-- Wednesday: Chuck E. Cheese pizza, buttered corn, diced peaches
-- Thursday: French toast sticks, sausage, hashbrowns, orange juice
Avon Middle and high school:
-- Thursday: Turkey and gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans, roll and butter, pineapple tidbits
-- Friday: Crisp taco with spicy bean dip and fritos, or chef salad with cheesy scone, applesauce, oatmeal cake
-- Monday: Dippers and sauce, or tuna salad croissant, broccoli salad, mixed fruit
-- Tuesday: Spaghetti with meat sauce or turkey and cheese bagel, tossed salad, orange wedges, peanut butter cake with chocolate frosting
-- Wednesday: Stuffed crust pizza with French fries or chicken Caesar salad with cheese scone, diced peaches
-- Thursday: French toast sticks, sausage pattie, hashbrowns, orange juice
Marching band concert
The Avon High School Indoor Marching Band Concert will be held tonight at 7 p.m. in the Avon High School gym.
Post's plans for holidays
The Avon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7035 will meet tonight at 8 p.m. in the post home, 36950 Mills Road, to plan for their fall and Christmas schedule.
Investment club to meet
The Detroit Road Investment Club will meet on Sunday, Nov. 12, at 11 a.m. in the parlor of the Avon United Methodist Church. Guests are welcome.
Drama club performance
The Avon High School Drama Club performance will be held tomorrow and Saturday at 7 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 13, at 3 p.m. in the Avon High School auditorium. The program will be a comedy, ''The Mouse That Roared.'' Tickets for students and seniors citizens, $3, and adults, $5.
Band boosters meeting
Avon High School Band Boosters Club will meet on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m. in the high school music room.
Parent, teacher conferences
Parent Teacher Conferences will be Monday, Nov. 13, at 4 p.m. at Avon High School, and Tuesday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m. at Avon East Elementary and Village elementary schools and Thursday, Nov. 16, at 7 p.m. at Avon Middle School.
Avon Research Club
The November meeting of the Avon Research Club will be a tour of the Lorain County Historical Societies' Hickories, the home of late Elyria industrialist Arthur L. Garford. Members will meet behind the Avon Police Station at 2:30 p.m., tomorrow to car pool. After the tour, stop for dessert and coffee.
Church's ladies guild
The Ladies Guild of Holy Trinity Church will sponsor a Tupperware demonstration on Monday, Nov. 13, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the church hall, 2630 Nagel Road. Guests are welcome.
Craft tables available
Tables are available for Christmas in The Barn craft show on Saturday, Dec. 2 in The Barn, 37711 Detroit Road. Table cost is $25 and $15 for members of the Avon Methodist Church. For information, call Judy Butchko at 934-2403.
Rebels lunch, meeting
Autumn Rebels will meet Tuesday, Nov. 14, at noon in The Barn, 37711 Detroit Road. The meeting will begin with a $5.25 catered lunch. All adults over 50 are welcome. Reservations should be made with Sis Wernert at 934-4445, three days before the meeting. The program will be ''Churches of Europe'' by Sam Falkenstein.
Get your flu shot
Flu shots will be given Wednesday, Nov. 15, by the Adult Health Clinic in The Barn, 37711 Detroit Road, from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
