New season for garden club

The Avon Garden Club is resuming its monthly meeting schedule on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at 7 p.m. Meetings are held at the Avon Public Library. The program speaker will be Don Gough of Willoway Nursery, who will bring plants and demonstrate how to create a topiary. For additional information, call Coletta at 934-5237.

Women's auxiliary to meet

The Avon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7035 Women's Auxiliary will entertain the Lorain County Council at the post home on Monday, Sept. 24, at 7:30 p.m.

VFW steak fry

The Avon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7035, 36950 Mills Road, will hold a tailgate steak fry on Sunday, Sept. 16, from 5 to 7 p.m. Cost of the dinner is $8.

Book discussion

The Mother/Daughter Book Group will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the Avon Branch Library to discuss ''Do You Know Me.'' Copies of the book are available at the library.

Lions Club clambake

The Avon Lions Club Annual Clambake will be Sunday, Sept. 16, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Tom's Country Place, 3442 Stoney Ridge Road. Tickets are $20 for clambake or steak dinner, $7 for an extra dozen clams. Tickets available at Smitty's Barbers, Bommer Insurance, Tom's Country Place or any Lions member.

Ice cream social, open house

Avon Branch Library will hold an ice cream social and centennial open house on Saturday, Sept. 22, from 1 to 4 p.m. There will be storytelling, musical entertainment and an appearance by the library's new mascot, Browser. Visitors are encouraged to bring their cameras. There will be a tour of the new Bookmobile and free library anniversary souvenirs. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Avon Library.

Public hearing scheduled

A public hearing will take place at 7 p.m. Sept. 19 at Avon City Hall, 36080 Chester Road, on rezoning property at the corner of Moore and Chester roads. Another hearing will take afterward at 7:15 p.m. on granting a special use permit for the Silver Leaf Adult Group Home.

Avon Historical Society meets

October 1 at 7 pm -- A visit to the Ohio Volunteer Infantry, 5501 Lake Rd. in Sheffield Lake. (Monday, 10-1-01)

You can drive directly to the OVI; or, you can assemble at the Old Town Hall of 1871, corner of Detroit and Stoney Ridge, at 6:45 pm, to car pool to the OVI.

October 8 at 7 pm -- Special business meeting (Monday, 10-8-01) at the Old Town Hall because of the cancellation of the meeting on September 11, 2001.
