Polka Mass, dinner, dancing

A Polka Mass will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Knights of Columbus Hall, followed by an ethnic dinner and dancing. Tickets are $13 per person, and are available from Joe at 934-5844, or Mary at 937- 3242.

Electric rail car talk

The Avon Branch Library will present a program on the electric railroad cars that traveled between Cleveland, Avon Lake, Lorain, Vermilion, Sandusky and Elyria in the early 1900s, on Sunday, Feb. 18, at 2 p.m. Albert Doane, of the Black River Historical Society, will present a free slide program. Preregister for the program by calling 934-4743.

School board to meet

The Avon Board of Education will meet Tuesday, Feb. 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the library in Avon Middle School.

Church's men's Fellowship

The Men's Fellowship of the Avon United Methodist Church will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, in Cracker Barrel Restaurant at Abbe and Detroit roads.

Outdoor week at Middle School

Sixth grade ''Outdoor Education Week'' will be observed from Tuesday, Feb. 20, to Friday, Feb. 23, at Avon Middle School.

Avon Village and East Elementary:

- Thursday: Meatballs submarine, tator tots, pineapple tidbits, milk

- Friday: Chicken nuggets, carrots, diced cinnamon pears, milk

- Monday: No School

- Tuesday: French toast sticks, sausage patty, hashbrown, orange juice, milk

- Wednesday: Pepperoni pizza, tossed salad, fruity cocktail, cookie, milk

- Thursday: Very cheesy grilled cheese, creamy tomato soup, dried Michigan cherries, milk

Avon Middle School:

- Thursday: Philly steak sub or chicken salad sandwich, crisp tossed salad, diced peaches, milk

- Friday: Grilled cheese, creamy tomato soup, pineapple tidbits, cranberry muffin, milk

- Monday: No school

- Tuesday: Meaty lasagna, seasoned breadstick, steamed peas, orange wedges, milk

- Wednesday: Stuffed crust pizza or grilled tuna and cheese, tator tots, cinnamon pears, milk

- Thursday: Footlong hot-dog or ham and cheese sub, broccoli augratin, trail mix, milk

Avon High School:

- Thursday: Philly steak sub or chicken salad sandwich, vegetable pasta salad, diced peaches, milk

- Friday: Grilled cheese, creamy tomato soup, diced pears, milk

- Monday: No school

- Tuesday: Meaty lasagna, seasoned breadstick, steamed peas, orange wedges, milk

Kindergarten information night

Avon Local Schools will be holding kindergarten information night on Wednesday, Feb. 28, at 7 p.m., in the cafeteria at Avon Village School. Parents of children who will be 5 by Sept. 30 should plan on attending and can schedule appointments for kindergarten screening ...

March Magic

The Avon Junior Women's Club announces preparations for its seventh annual fundraiser.

The event, March Magic, will raise funds to benefit the Avon Public Library, the Avon Community Center, Avon Safety Town, and a scholarship for one young woman in Lorain County.

This year's event will take place on March 31 at Wagner's Country Inn in Westlake. The organization is seeking financial sponsorship, patron donations, silent auction donations and advertising in the program.
