Parks board to meet

The Avon Parks and Recreation Board will meet in the Avon Isle Building tonight at 7.

Bell choir to rehearse

The Bell Choir of the Avon United Methodist Church will rehearse tonight at 7. New ''ringers'' are always welcome.

Give blood

The Lorain County Blood Bank will be at Faith Lutheran Church, Garden and Lakeland drives, Sunday, Oct. 21, from 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

The community is invited to participate.

Red Ribbon week

Avon Village School will observe Red Ribbon Week, Monday, Oct. 22, to Friday, Oct. 26. During the week special programs encouraging students to avoid the use of drugs will be emphasized.

Market Day, PTA meeting

Avon Village School will hold its Market Day pick-up Thursday, Oct. 25, from 5 to 6 p.m. An Avon Village PTA meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m.

Community Day celebration

The New Community Baptist Church will hold its second annual Community Day on Sunday, Oct. 21, at 10 a.m. in Avon City Hall, 36080 Chester Road.

The Rev. Brian Gardner said the day will recognize the value of friends and neighbors, as well as city officials, who keep our community progressing. Avon city officials and the community are invited to attend.

Luncheon card party

Avon St. Mary Altar and Rosary Society will sponsor a fall luncheon card party Wednesday, Oct. 31, at noon at Tom's Country Place, 3442 Stoney Ridge Road. Admission at the door is $7. There will be table and raffle prizes and a bake sale.

Proceeds will be used to purchase church supplies. Reservations can be made by calling 934-4078, 934-5933, 934-5722 or 934-6639.

Booster seats available

As part of Ford Motor Company's ''Boost America Campaign,'' the Lorain County Safe Community Coalition will have booster seats available at the EMH Center for Health & Fitness, 1997 Healthway Drive, on Monday, Oct. 22, from 2 to 5 p.m. To qualify for a booster seat, you must meet income guidelines. Car seats will be checked and boosters distributed by appointment only.

Parents club fund-raiser

The Avon Preschool Parents Club will have its third annual Kids Closet at the Avon High School, Saturday, Oct. 20, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is resale of children's clothes, maternity clothes, nursery supplies, children's toys, furniture, etc. Admission is $1 to shop. All proceeds go to the club.

Let's get in shape

The Avon Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring a fitness and conditioning class for adults in the Avon High School weight room, Monday, Nov. 5, through Monday, Dec. 17. The class meet Mondays and Thursdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. It consists of stretching and band exercises, free weights and machines. A certified instructor will help each individual meet his or her goal, whether it is to lose weight or firm up. Cost is $45 for a six-week session. Class size is limited, and preregistration is required. If interested, call Donna Russian at 937-4248.

-- Friday: Chicken pasta salad, broccoli cheese soup, melon cup

-- Tuesday: Pasta bar, breadstick, juice

-- Wednesday: Salisbury steak with tomato gravy, steamed rice, green beans, diced peaches

-- Thursday: Donato's pizza, seasoned corn, diced peaches

Avon Elementary:

-- Today: French toast sticks, sausage patty, hashbrowns, grape juice

-- Friday: Chef salad, vegetable soup, break stick, melon cup

-- Monday: Chicken patty on a bun, broccoli with cheese sauce, pineapple tidbits

-- Tuesday: Break sticks with marinara sauce, cheese sticks, apple juice

-- Wednesday: Pepperoni pizza, tossed salad, croutons, diced peaches

-- Thursday: Beef tacos, lettuce and tomato, refried beans, applesauce
