Preservation talk

The French Creek Development Association is sponsoring a symposium starting 8 a.m. Sept. 27 at The Barn at the Avon United Methodist Church, 37711 Detroit Road, to discuss the issues of long-term city planning.

Downtown, Ohio Inc., a statewide, nonprofit organization that works with downtown preservation efforts will participate. The event is expected to end at 4 p.m. For more information, call Paul Burik at 934-4420 or Carol Hartwig at 934-2207.

What's for lunch?

Here's a look at the Avon schools lunch menu from Sept. 20 to 27:

Avon East Elementary:

-- Thursday: Turkey and gravy, mashed potatoes, seasoned corn, roll, cookie, milk

-- Friday: Junior bacon turkey club, potato sticks, applesauce, milk

-- Monday: Soft pretzel with cheese sauce, baby carrots with dip, juice bar, milk

-- Tuesday: Macho nachos, Mexi corn, pineapple tidbits, milk

-- Wednesday: Pizza pocket, tossed salad, fruit cocktail, milk

-- Thursday: Chicken nuggets, broccoli in cheese sauce, roll, fruity Jell-O, milk

Avon High School:

-- Thursday: Turkey and gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans, roll, cookie, milk

-- Friday: East of Chicago pizza, mini Caesar, diced pears, milk

-- Monday: Donato's pizza, fries, fruit cocktail, milk

-- Tuesday: Chicken nuggets, augratin potatoes, roll, melon, milk

-- Wednesday: Domino's pizza, mini Caesar, raspberry sherbet, milk

-- Thursday: Meaty lasagna, breadstick, buttered corn, applesauce, milk

PTA meeting set

The Avon Village PTA will meet 7 p.m. Sept. 25 in the second-floor media room at the Avon Village School, 36600 Detroit Road.

Two Vi's celebrate b-days

On Sunday, Sept. 9, two Violas at Avon United Methodist Church were honored in recognition of their joint 92nd birthdays. Both women were born on Sept. 11, 1909.

Viola Milota, of Avon, has three children, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She worked for the Cleveland Board of Education at West Tech and John Marshall High schools.

Viola Gilmore, a 1928 graduate of North Ridgeville High School, lived in Avon for 31 years. She and her husband, Robert, were in the greenhouse cut-flower business for many years. She had one son, Robert.

Auxiliary hosts council

The Avon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7035 Auxiliary will meet Monday, Sept. 24, hosting the Lorain County Council of Veterans of Foreign Wars. They will meet at 36950 Mills Road, Avon, at 7:30 p.m.

A trip to the Infantry

The Avon Historical Society is planning a visit to the Ohio Volunteer Infantry, 5501 Lake Road, Sheffield Lake, 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1. Guests are welcome.

Men's breakfast

The Men's Fellowship Breakfast of the Avon United Methodist Church will be 7:30 a.m. Saturday in the Cracker Barrel Restaurant on Detroit Road. Guests are welcome.

Blood drive set

A blood drive with LifeShare will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, at the Avon United Methodist Church. For additional information, call the church office at 934-5121.
