Toddler story programs

Sign-up for Toddler Time, a story program for 2- to 3-year-olds is being held at Avon Branch Library. The free program will be held today and Thursday, Aug. 30, preregistration can be done by calling the library at 934-4743.

Holiday changes council meeting

Due to Labor Day, Avon City Council will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 4 for a work session at 7:30 p.m. in council chambers at Avon City Hall, located at the corner of Center and Chester roads.

Join a book group

Interested persons are urged to join the adult afternoon book discussion group when it meets next Tuesday, Aug. 28 at 2 p.m. in the Avon Branch Library. The book to be discussed is ''Georgiana.'' Copies of the book are available at the library.

Library closed Labor Day

The Avon Branch Library will be closed on Monday, Sept. 3, for Labor Day, opening on Tuesday, Sept. 4.

Fellowship group meeting

The Men's Fellowship Group of the Avon United Methodist Church will meet Saturday at 7:30 a.m. in the Cracker Barrel Restaurant on Detroit road near the I-90 exit. Visitors welcome.

Spend `Sundae in the Park'

Sundae in the Park will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 26 at the Heritage Square Park gazebo. Residents new and old are invited. Participants can pay $2 to make their own sundae and $1 for an ice cream cone. There will be music and entertainment. The event is sponsored by the French Creek Development Association.

Schools are cooking again

Just look what's the cooking for students in Avon Schools for the first week of school, Aug. 23 to 30:

Avon East Elementary

-- Thursday: Hot dog on bun, seasoned oven fries, diced peaches, milk

-- Friday: Grilled cheese sandwich, tomato soup, Frito corn chips, chilled pears, milk

-- Monday: Hamburger on bun, tator tots, pineapple tidbits, milk

-- Tuesday: Rotini with meat sauce, diced carrots, bread stick, applesauce, milk

-- Wednesday: Cheesy pizza, tossed salad, watermelon wedge

-- Thursday: Mini corn dogs, seasoned corn, fruit cocktail, milk

Avon High School

-- Thursday: Footlong hot dog on bun, tator tots, diced peaches, milk

-- Friday: Grilled cheese, tomato soup, frito corn chips, chilled pears, milk

-- Monday: Ranch chicken wrap, tator tots, pineapple tidbits, milk

-- Tuesday: Pasta bar, steamed broccoli, breadstick, applesauce, milk

-- Wednesday: Dominos pizza, tossed salad, watermelon wedge, milk

-- Thursday: 2-4-1 corndog, seasoned corn, fruit cocktail, cookie, milk

Avon Historical Society meets

The first fall meeting of the Avon Historical Society will be held on 9-11-01 at 7 pm in the Old Town Hall of 1871, corner of Detroit and Stoney Ridge.

The program for September 11 is a presentation on "Approaches to Preserving Historic Structures in Avon." The panelists are Fred Holycross, Director of Preservation Resource Center (a program of the Cleveland Restoration Society), Jack Kilroy, Avon Councilman from the Fourth Ward, and Jim Rokakis, Cuyahoga County Treasurer. Everyone is invited.
