Antique fall festival

The Country Living and Antique Fall Festival will be held Saturday, Sept. 8, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 9, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the French Creek District shops in Avon along SR 254, SR 611, Stoney Ridge and east of SR 83. Follow the scarecrows and cornstalks to the antique and craft marts. There will be entertainment, food, sidewalk sales and flea markets. Health screenings offered

Free cholesterol and blood pressure screenings will be offered to all Avon residents on Tuesday, Sept. 11, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Avenbury Lakes Lodge, located off Detroit Road. This program is sponsored by the Avon Parks and Recreation Dept., St. John's Westshore Hospital and the Avenbury Lakes Development Co. For info, call Donna Russian at 934-3059.

Preschool parents meet

The Avon Preschool Parents Club invites all parents of preschool-aged children to join them for the club's first meeting of the year on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 7 p.m. at the Avon Middle School. The APPC is a family organization providing educational and social activities for parents and children ages birth through kindergarten. The APPC holds its membership meetings on the second Tuesday of every month (September through April) at the Avon Middle School.

Avon East Elementary:

-- Friday: French toast sticks, sausage patty, hashbrown, chilled orange juice, milk

-- Monday: No school

-- Tuesday: Chicken patty on bun, seasoned potato wedges, diced peaches, milk

-- Wednesday: Pepperoni pizza, green beans, fruit cup, milk

-- Thursday: Warm ham and cheese bagel, seasoned corn, banana pudding

Avon High School:

-- Thursday: 2-4-1 corn dog, seasoned corn, fruit cocktail, milk

-- Friday: French toast sticks, sausage patty, hashbrown, chilled juice, milk

-- Monday: No school

-- Tuesday: Warm ham and cheese bagel, seasoned potato wedges, diced peaches, milk

-- Wednesday: Domino's pizza, tossed salad, orange wedges, milk

-- Thursday: Meatball submarine, seasoned corn, pudding, milk

Exercise program for seniors

Area seniors are invited to attend ''Workout in a Chair'' exercise program held on Monday mornings at 10 a.m. in the Avon United Methodist Church. Bring a friend.

Library hours set

The Avon Branch Library will be closed Monday, Sept. 3 for Labor Day. Sunday hours will commence on Sunday, Sept. 9, from 1 to 5 p.m. and continue through Sunday, May 19.

Women's Club gets underway

Avon Women's Club will meet Monday, Sept. 10, in Avon Community Hall at 7 p.m. They will hold a pizza party, welcome new members and plan for the coming months.

Post planning events

The Avon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7035 will meet Thursday, Sept. 13, at 8 p.m. to make plans for a tailgate party/steak fry on a date to be announced during September.

Research club to meet

The Avon Research Club will meet Friday, Sept. 14, at 1 p.m. in the home of Violet Free. Program booklets and information for the coming club year will be available.

Avon Historical Society meets

The first fall meeting of the Avon Historical Society will be held on Tuesday, 9-11-01 at 7 pm in the Old Town Hall of 1871, corner of Detroit and Stoney Ridge.

The program for September 11 is a presentation on "Approaches to Preserving Historic Structures in Avon." The panelists are Fred Holycross, Director of Preservation Resource Center (a program of the Cleveland Restoration Society), Jack Kilroy, Avon Councilman from the Fourth Ward, and Jim Rokakis, Cuyahoga County Treasurer. Everyone is invited.
