Council meeting Tuesday

Avon City Council will meet Tuesday, Oct. 9, instead of the normal Monday meeting date. Meeting time is 7:30 p.m. in chambers of Avon City Hall, Chester and Center roads.

Clambake, steak roast

A clambake and steak roast is planned for Sunday, Oct. 7, from 3 to 6:30 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 1783 Moore Road. Cost is $17 per person, extra clams will cost $6 per dozen. Reservations are not necessary. Carry-out will be available.

Choir, band boosters

On Tuesday, Oct. 9, both the choir and band boosters clubs will meet at Avon High School at 7 p.m.

Veterans hold meeting

The Avon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post meeting will be Thursday, Oct. 11, at 8 p.m. in the post home, 36950 Mills Road.

Seniors' program

A program for senior citizens will be held on Thursday, Oct. 11, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the conference rooms at EMH Center on Health Drive. The program will highlight ''Memory Loss'' and will be provided by the Alzheimer's Association and the EMH Center for Senior Health and Wellness. To register, call 326-5401.

Welcome Wagon Club

The Avon Lake/Avon Welcome Wagon Club holds meeting and social activities year-round. Membership dues are $15 and membership information can be obtained by calling Kathy Deming at 933-8269.

Join Kiwanis Club

Avon Kiwanis invites anyone interested in becoming a member to call Don at 937-7838 or Roger at 934-3318.

Here's a look at what's cooking in the Avon schools through Oct. 11:

Avon elementary:

-- Friday: Grilled cheese, tomato soup with croutons, pineapple tidbits, milk

-- Monday: Hot dog on bun, potato wedges, fruit cocktail, milk

-- Tuesday: Cheeseburger, macaroni, steamed carrots, melon cup, milk

-- Wednesday: Pepperoni pizza, seasoned corn, applesauce, milk

-- Thursday: Soft pretzel with cheese sauce, tossed salad, juice bar, milk

Avon middle and high schools:

-- Friday: Grilled cheese, tomato soup with croutons, pineapple tidbits, milk

-- Monday: East of Chicago pizza, seasoned corn, fruit cocktail, milk

-- Tuesday: Cheeseburger, macaroni, steamed carrots, juice bar, milk.

-- Wednesday: Soft pretzel with cheese sauce, potato wedgies, diced pears, milk

-- Thursday: Donato's pizza, Caesar salad, melon cup, milk

Baton twirling lessons

A seven-week baton twirling session sponsored by the Avon Parks and Recreation Department is Oct. 8 through Nov. 26. A class for 4- to 7-year-olds will be held Mondays from 6 to 6:45 p.m. or Saturdays from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Ages 8 to 14 will meet on Mondays from 7 to 7:45 p.m. or Saturdays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Cost is $55 or $40 if you have a baton. Park pavilion dedication

The Avon Parks and Recreation Department, along with the Avon Park Board and City Council, are holding a dedication ceremony of the new park pavilion at Northgate Park, located in the Northgate Development off SR 611, on Sunday, Oct. 7, at 1 p.m. The ceremony is to thank those who were instrumental in getting the project completed.

Commission officers

Officers of the Avon Senior Advisory Commission include Jim Schmitz, chairman; Pat Bahas, vice chairman; Jim Mutcher, secretary; Helen Schatschneider, treasurer; and Tim Nickum, council representative. The commission meets the second Wednesday of each month at 9:30 a.m. at EMH, 1997 Healthway Drive.

Historical society meeting

The Avon Historical Society will have a special business meeting on Monday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m. at the Old Town Hall, corner of Detroit and Stoney Ridge.
