Gazebo tree lighting

The Avon Historical Society and the Avon Lions Club will have a tree lighting at the Gazebo in Heritage Square 6 p.m. Dec. 8. Santa will start the festivities, arriving in a horse-drawn sleigh. The Avon High School Choir will be singing old favorites. Lolly the Trolley will provide free rides along Detroit Road. After the tree lighting, there will be hot chocolate available at the old Town Hall.

Youth basketball program

The Avon Little Eagles basketball program will be offered for children in grades 3 through 6, including any child who was 8 years old by Dec. 1. The students must attend Avon schools or be Avon residents. The season runs from Dec. 8 to Feb. 2 and games will be at Avon High School on Saturday mornings. The cost is $25 for the first child and $15 for each additional child. For more information call, Donna Russian at 937-4248 or 934-3059.

Candlelight walk

The French Creek Association will hold its 22nd Annual Christmas Candlelight Walk from 6 to 10 p.m. Dec. 7; from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Dec. 8; and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 9. The walk will travel along SR 254 at SR 611. For more information, call 934-6119 or 937-5204 in the evenings.

Avon Elementary

-- Today: Grilled cheese sandwich, tomato soup with crackers, diced peaches

-- Tuesday: Beef sandwich, vegetable soup, applesauce

-- Wednesday: Pepperoni pizza, green beans, diced peaches

-- Thursday: French toast sticks, sausage patty, hashbrowns, orange juice

Avon middle/high school

-- Today: Grilled cheese sandwich, tomato soup with crackers, diced peaches

-- Friday: Chicken patty sandwich, tator tots, diced pineapples

-- Monday: Pizza, rice pilaf with veggies, pineapple tidbits

-- Tuesday: Soft beef taco, refried bean casserole, diced peaches

-- Wednesday: Pepperoni pizza, Caesar salad, fruit cocktail

-- Thursday: French toast sticks, sausage patty, hashbrown, orange juice

Breakfast with Santa

The Avon Preschool's Parents Club will hold a pancake breakfast with Santa at Avon High School, 37545 Detroit Road, on Dec. 8 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tickets cost $4 for adults, $1.50 for children ages 3 to 8 and children younger than 2 are free. Advisory commission luncheon

The Senior Citizen Advisory Commission will have a potluck luncheon 11:30 a.m. Dec. 12 at the Avon Lions Community Center, 2155 Eaton Drive. All members are asked to bring a dish to share. A brief business meeting will take place prior to the luncheon. Members who have not signed up should call Tim Nickum at 937-6657.

Sign up for toddler time

Avon Branch Library will hold toddler time today and Dec. 13 at 10:30 a.m. for children 2 to 3 years old. The free story program requires pre-registration. Call the library at 934-4743.

`Christmas Around The World'

The Faith Lutheran Church will present ''Christmas Around The World'' from 2 to 5 p.m. Dec. 8. Children, ages 3 to 11, are invited to visit countries from around the world. They will make craft projects, learn to say ''Merry Christmas'' in other languages and hear the true meaning of Christmas. Parents are welcome to stay or take the opportunity to do some Christmas shopping. Registration will begin at 1:50 p.m. in the church and the program will end at 5 p.m., following a pizza supper. Investment club meeting

The Detroit Road Investment Club will meet in the Avon United Methodist Church 11 a.m. Dec. 9 in the church parlor. Guests are welcome.

Bell choir to perform

The ''Heavenly Chimers,'' a bell choir, will be at The Barn, 37711 Detroit Road, to entertain Autumn Rebels Dec. 11. The event starts with a $6.25 catered noon luncheon. Reservations for lunch can be made by calling Sis Wernert at 934-4445. All adults 50 and older are welcome.

City Council meeting

Avon City Council will meet in regular session Monday at 7:30 p.m. in council chambers, 36080 Chester Road, Avon.
