Veterans springing ahead

The Avon Veterans of Foreign Wars will meet tonight at 8 p.m. in the post home, 36940 Mills Road, to make plans for spring activities.

Research club's outing

The Avon Research Club will meet tomorrow, Feb. 9 at 1 p.m. for lunch at Panera Bread Co., 26137 Detroit Road, Westlake, and then attend a craft program at Just Clayin' Around, 26963 Detroit Road, at 2 p.m.

Investments catch your fancy?

The Detroit Road Investment Club will meet at 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 11 in the parlor of the Avon United Methodist Church. Guests are welcome.

Art show, story program

On Sunday, Feb. 11, Avon East Elementary School students and parents are invited to attend an Art Odyssey at Artstown Gallery, 33489 Lake Road, Avon Lake, at 2 p.m. A Right to Read story program will be Monday, Feb. 12 at Avon East Elementary School at 6:30 p.m.

Booster club meeting

The Avon Booster Club will meet Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. at Avon Middle School, Room 108, and the Avon Band Booster Club will meet on Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. in Avon High School.

Open enrollment applications

Avon Local School District is having open enrollment beginning Monday, Feb. 19. Residents in the following school districts are eligible to apply: Avon Lake, Bay Village, Elyria, North Ridgeville, Sheffield-Sheffield Lake and Westlake.

Applications may be picked up at the appropriate building; none will be mailed. All applications must be returned to that building in a sealed envelope with the notation ''open enrollment.'' For a list of addresses and office hours of Avon schools, call Cathy at 934-5450.

Arthritis pain talk

Is arthritis pain hindering your everyday activities? Then this talk's for you. An arthritis pain talk, sponsored by Avon Recreation Department, Avenbury Lakes Development and St. John West Shore Outreach Department, will be Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 5 p.m. at the Avenbury Lakes Lodge.

Eileen Moeller of the Arthritis Foundation will give an information talk, pass out literature and answer any questions. Blood pressure readings will also be available. Call Donna Russian at 934-5044 or 934-3059 for more information.

Association's new officers

Officers of the French Creek District Association for 2001 include: Peggy Strange, president; Louise Allen, vice president; Moe Kuru, treasurer; and Mary Ellen Piazza, secretary.

March Magic

The Avon Junior Women's Club announces preparations for its seventh annual fundraiser.

The event, March Magic, will raise funds to benefit the Avon Public Library, the Avon Community Center, Avon Safety Town, and a scholarship for one young woman in Lorain County.

This year's event will take place on March 31 at Wagner's Country Inn in Westlake. The organization is seeking financial sponsorship, patron donations, silent auction donations and advertising in the program.

A Taste of Avon

The Avon schools are offering "A Taste of Avon."

The event will feature speakers from the local historical society and the Avon schools, remarks from Mayor Jim Smith and an open house featuring representatives from 30 other city businesses and organizations.

"A Taste of Avon" will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, 2-15-01, in the commons area and auditorium at Avon High School, said Kristina Buller, Assistant Principal at Avon High School.
