Library news: The Avon Branch Library will be closed Monday, May 27, for Memorial Day. The Adult Afternoon Book Discussion Group will discuss ''The World of Night'' by Lorus Milne May 28 at 1 p.m.

Baton lessons: The Avon Recreation Department will sponsor summer baton lessons for residents ages 4 to 14 every Wednesday for seven weeks starting June 26. Day and evening classes will be offered. The cost is $42 or $50 if the child needs a baton. For information or to register, call instructor Doreen Fisher at 937-1848. Registration must be completed by June 19 to participate.

Avon Village Run: The eighth Annual Avon Village Run, sponsored by the Avon Village Schools, will be Friday. The 1.3-mile run symbolizes the value of lifetime fitness and involves first and second graders. The event starts with a school picnic at 11:15 a.m. The run begins at 1 p.m. and the awards ceremony will be at 2 p.m. The school is located at 36000 Detroit Road.

Eagle Run: The second annual EMH Eagle Run will be Saturday, starting and ending at the EMH Center for Health and Fitness, 1997 Healthway Drive, Avon. Proceeds will go to the Avon City Schools Educational Endowment Fund and the EMH Foundation. Registration opens at 7 a.m. The 5-mile and 3-mile runs begins at 9 a.m. There will be cash prizes awarded and non-cash awards will also be presented to winners in each age group. Registration must be received by Thursday. For information, contact the EMH Center.
