Garfield tour: The Avon Historical Society will tour newly restored "Lawnfield", home of President Garfield on Sunday, May 5. Car pool at 1:00 pm from the Old Town Hall at the corner of Detroit and Stoney Ridge. The tour includes the carriage house, the campaign office, the pump house, windmill, granary, barn, etc.

Pack a picnic lunch. A picnic area is available to us at Lawnfield, and there is a covered area in the event of a shower. If you do not want to picnic, there are fast food restaurants just down the road; or you can drive straight home. A picnic will be fun for all the family. Call 934-6106 for more information.

Golf outing: St. Mary's annual golf outing, 4-person scramble, will be Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dinner will be at 4 p.m. Cost is $60 per person for 18 holes of golf, cart, lunch, beverages, steak dinner and prizes. For dinner only, cost is $15. The golf outing will be at the Avondale Golf Club on Detroit Road in Avon. Call Angie at 937-5795 or Carol at 934-2227 for more information.

Veterans meeting: The Avon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7035 will meet Thursday at 8 p.m. The post is located at 36950 Mills Road.

Rotary Club: The Avon, Avon Lake and Sheffield Lake Rotary Club meets weekly on Tuesdays at 7:30 a.m. at EMH on Detroit Road and are inviting local residents to attend. For information, call Tony Palmiere at 930-2323.

Chorus to perform: Lorain Golden Crescent Chorus sponsors visitor's night on April 29 at Tom's Country Place, Stoney Ridge Road, Avon, at 7 p.m. Guests will have the opportunity to sing along with the chorus and even learn a song or two. The public is invited.

Market Day data: Avon Village School Market Day late orders will be accepted until Thursday and internet orders until Saturday. Orders will be picked up at Avon Village School cafeteria on Thursday, May 2, between 5 and 6 p.m. For information, call Gina Tilton at 937-4117.

School news: The Academic Boosters Club will meet Wednesday at Avon Middle School at 7 p.m. ''Midnight Madness'' will be held from 8 p.m. to midnight for eighth graders at Avon Middle School on Friday. Friday will also be ''Crazy Hair Day'' at Avon East Elementary School.
