The Avon Historical Society: will meet on Monday, 9-9-02, at 7 pm, in the Old Town Hall of 1871, corner of Detroit and Stoney Ridge.

The speakers will be Bill Bird from the Lorain County Historical Society and Matt Kocsis from the Lorain County Metroparks. They will discuss the Ohio Biicentenial Program at the French Creek Nature Center to be held in 2003. Avon will be displaying a 10-foot diameter working overshot water wheel, a model farm, and an exhibit commemorating the Avon Isle.

Youth fun day: Boy Scout Troop 333 of Avon, in conjunction with the American Cancer Society, is sponsoring a fun day for area youth (ages 10 to 20) who are cancer patients or survivors. The patient/survivor and up to two guests may come for a free day compliments of Goodtimes Family Fun Center in Avon. The Sept. 7 event will be from noon to 5 p.m. Lunch will be provided for patients/survivors and their guests by Boy Scout Troop 333. Luncheon: Avon Chapter of Network Professionals, Inc. will meet each Thursday at lunch at the Avon Lake Library, 32649 Electric Blvd., Avon Lake, at 11:30 a.m. For information call Dan Minick at (800) 936-5323.

Book talk: A Mother/Daughter book discussion group, including fourth through eighth graders, will discuss ''Letter From Rifka'' at the Avon Library tomorrow at 7:30 p.m.

Amish trip for seniors: The Avon Seniors, Inc. are planning an Amish Tour on Thursday, Sept. 26, at $35 per person. Plans include stopping at an Amish home for lunch, visiting a bakery, cheese factory, flea market and shopping in Berlin. For information, call Randy Loth at 937-6723.

Book discussion: The Afternoon Adult Book discussion group will meet tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Avon Branch Library to discuss ''The Conspiracy of Paper.'' New members are welcome.

Health screenings, talk: The Avon Health Screenings, sponsored by the Avon Recreation Department, Avenbury Lakes Development Co. and St. John Westshore Hospital Outreach Department, will be offered Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the Avenbury Lakes Lodge, 35400 Middleton Drive, Avon. The first session will offer free blood pressure readings from 5 to 7 p.m. and a talk on grandparenting skills will be at 6 p.m.

Parents group to meet: The Avon Preschool Parents Club (APPC) invites all parents of preschool-aged children to the club's first meeting of the year, Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m. at Avon Middle School. The APPC is a family organization providing educational and social activities for parents and children ages birth through kindergarten. Membership meetings are the second Tuesday of each month through April. For information, call 937-5102.
