City Council: Avon City Council will meet for a work session on Monday, May 6, at 7 p.m.

Book discussion: The Adult Book Discussion Group meets at 7 p.m. on Wednesday to discuss ''Sayonara'' by James Michener. Copies are available. The library is located at 37485 Harvest Drive. Call 934-4743, for more information.

Historical Society trip: The Avon Historical Society will make a trip to President Garfield's Home, Lawnfield, on Sunday, May 5. Car pool at 1:00 pm from the Old Town Hall at the corner of Detroit and Stoney Ridge. The tour includes the carriage house, the campaign office, the pump house, windmill, granary, barn, etc.

Pack a picnic lunch. A picnic area is available at Lawnfield, and there is a covered area in the event of a shower. If you do not want to picnic, there are fast food restaurants just down the road; or you can drive straight home. A picnic will be fun for all the family. Call 934-6106 for more information.

Horseback lessons: Horseback lessons will be offered by the Avon Recreation Department for children ages 4 to 12, up to 125 pounds. Children will learn beginning riding and basics as well as grooming, horse care, saddling, bridling, safety issues, stable care and upkeep. Classes will be held at Pony Tale Farms, 27259 Cook Road, Olmsted Township, on Wednesdays from 10 to 11 a.m., 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The cost is $60 for a four-week session. Call Avon recreation coordinator Donna Russian at 937-4248 to register. There will be a maximum of eight children per class.

Booster membership drive: The Avon Athletic Boosters Club will hold an annual membership drive starting on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. in Avon High School. They will be visiting residents urging participation and support to provide funds for various projects, programs and equipment. If a resident does not receive a visit, they are urged to request a membership form by calling Sue at 937-9554.
