THE HOLIDAYS ARE APPROACHING: The annual Christmas Tree lighting ceremony, sponsored by the FDCA, the Avon Historical Society, The Avon Lions and the City of Avon will be Saturday, December 7 at 6:00 p.m. Once again, Santa will arrive by horse drawn sleigh arriving at the Gazebo on the corner of Detroit and Stoney Ridge Roads. The Avon High School Choir will be caroling. Afterwards, Santa will visit with young and old at the Old Town Hall, where refreshments will be served. This is a great community event that hundreds of children attend.

Book talk: The Evening Adult Book Discussion Group will meet Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. at the Avon Branch Library. The group will discuss ''Not A Day Goes By'' by E. Lynn Harris. Copies are available at the library. New members are welcome.

Candlelight walk: French Creek Association's 23rd Christmas Candlelight Walk will be Friday, Dec. 6, from 6 to 10 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 7, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 8, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Festivities will be in the French Creek District, along SR 254. Enjoy antiques, crafts, and gift boutiques located in the district. Caroling, Lolly the Trolley shuttle service, door prizes, Santa and elves will also help make the weekend. Lecture: Good Samaritan Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center's next free lecture will be Thursday, Dec. 12 at 10 a.m. Topic will be preparing for a changed holiday, with Judi Fischer of Busch Family Funeral Chapels. Refreshments will be served. Call 937-6201, to make a reservation.
