Avon Historical Society: The Avon Historical Society: will meet on Monday, 11-4-02, at 7 pm, in the Old Town Hall of 1871, corner of Detroit and Stoney Ridge. "AVON TERRORIZED BY ARMED MANIAC, 1905," Presented by Jean Fischer: An account of several frantic days verified by newspaper files.

Baby-sitting course: The American Red Cross and the Avon Branch Library will offer a baby-sitting basics course Nov. 16 and 23 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The course, targeted for 11- through 15-year-olds, teaches ideas for fun and games, infant and young child-care, safety and infant and child first aid. Participants must attend both sessions to receive American Red Cross baby-sitting certification. Cost is $37, which includes a textbook and first aid kit. Register by mailing in the payment to the American Red Cross, Lorain County Chapter, 2929 W. River Road North, Elyria 44035. For information, call 324-2929.

Seniors to meet: Avon Senior Citizens Inc. will meet Nov. 13 at 9:30 a.m. at the EMH Center, 1997 Healthway Drive, off Detroit Road in Avon. The guest speaker will be Patricia Littleton, executive director of the Office on Aging in Lorain County. Guests are welcome. For information, call Jim Schmitz at 937-5486.

Garden club meeting: The Avon Garden Club will meet Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. at the Avon Library, 37485 Harvest Drive. Shirley Rice, of Savorys E, will teach how to make herb vinegars. Members should bring two salad dressing containers. For information, call Coletta Holowecky at 937-5237.

Book sale: The Friends of the Avon Library will have a used book sale Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Donations may be dropped off at the library, 37485 Harvest Drive.

Basketball program: The Avon Recreation Department will be offering a Little Eagle Basketball program to any child who lives in the city of Avon or attends Avon schools. If you are in the second grade, you must be 8-years-old by Dec. 1 to be eligible to play. The program will begin Dec. 7 through Feb. 15. Registration forms are available at the schools. If your child does not attend an Avon school and would like a form, call Donna Russian at 934-3059. Leave your name, address and phone number and a form will be mailed.
