Gymnastics, cheerleading program: The Avon Recreation Department is sponsoring the Little Flippers Gymnastics and Cheerleading program. The gymnastics program is for children ages 2 to 12 and cheerleading for children grades two through six. Classes are offered during the week for beginnings through advanced. The seven-week program runs Sept. 3 to Oct. 18. For more information or to register, call Kris Sharer, instructor, at 937-6945.

Avon East open house: Avon East Elementary School will have its open house, Wednesday, Aug. 21, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. All families are encouraged to attend. This is a time for all children and parents to meet the teachers, see the classrooms and tour the building and grounds. Parents can also sign up for Avon East PTA membership at this time. Membership drive: The Avon Preschool Parents Club will host its annual membership drive, Thursday, Aug. 8, at the Schwartz Road Park Pavilion from 6 to 8 p.m. The event will feature fun activities for the family, including a visit by one of Avon's finest fire trucks, an obstacle course, ice cream treats, and more. Meet new friends and learn about the APPC, a family organization providing educational and social services for parents and children ages birth through kindergarten.

Fund-raiser proceeds: The Avon Junior Women's Club is looking for deserving beneficiaries to receive the proceeds from their annual fund raiser, March Magic 2003. Interested local organizations, Avon or Lorain County, are asked to present their needs at the group's next general meeting, Aug. 19. In addition, the fundraiser supports a $1,000 scholarship awarded each year to an Avon woman attending college. Call Liddy Nicol at 937-5695 or Kim Sulen at 937-5085.
