Senior citizens: Avon Senior Citizens will have a picnic July 10 at the Community Center with a catered lunch of chicken and steak. Guest speaker Mike Wolf, of the Avon Historical Society, will talk about Avon and its history. The cost is $6.50 per person. Call 937-5881, for information or tickets. The meeting begins at 9:30 with the luncheon set for 11:30 a.m.

Playground program: Supervised playground days for kids of all ages during summer vacation will be offered by the Avon Parks and Recreation Department. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:30 a.m. to noon (weather permitting) children can participate in structured activities at Avon Community Park at Schwartz Road. The program runs through the first week of August. For information, call 937-7834.

Library yard sale: The Friends of the Avon Library will hold its annual yard sale Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Avon Branch Library. Donations also are being accepted for the sale starting today during regular library hours. No clothing or large pieces of furniture.

Summer reading: Preschoolers through fifth-graders can sign up for a special summer reading program, High Flying Trapeze Fun, at the Avon Branch Library. The free program will feature a circus story and a trapeze acrobat craft. Sign up for one of the following sessions: Monday, July 15, 7 p.m., or Tuesday, July 16, 11 a.m., 1 p.m. or 7 p.m. For information, call 934-4743.

Big Cats programs: Preschoolers through fifth graders can sign up to attend the free program, Tame the Big Cats, featuring a story, activity and a craft. Preregister for one of the following programs starting today at 7 p.m. or Tuesday at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. or 7 p.m. To sign up, call the library at 934-4743.

Gourmet for a day: Avon Seniors Inc. will be hosting a Gourmet for a Day bus trip on Wednesday, Aug. 28. They leave for Erie, Pa., at 7 a.m. At Riverside Inn, master chef Bob Stuart will prepare the entire meal right in front of the visitors. The trip will include Wegman's Supermarket. Blair Outlet Store will be the final stop. Return time approximately 7 p.m. Price is $35 per person. Call Marlene or Randy Loth at 937-6723, for reservations.
