VFW meeting: Avon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7035, 36950 Mills Road, will meet at the post Thursday at 8 p.m. The VFW Auxiliary will hold its meeting at the post Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. Plans for the picnic scheduled for Aug. 23, 2 to 5 p.m., are being finalized.
Baton classes: Registration for Pizzazz Baton and Pompon classes is being accepted for the fall season. Classes are available for children ages 4 through 15. For information on class schedule and costs, call Doreen Fischer at 937-6945.
Entertainment books on sale: The Isabella Guild of Knights of Columbus, Father Ragan Council 3269 are again selling Cleveland Area Entertainment Books for 2004. If purchased by Dec. 8, the book will cost $25. Purchased after Dec. 8, the cost will be $30. The books will cover the east and west sides of Cleveland. Quilt group gathering: The Busy Hands Quilt Group of the Avon United Methodist Church will meet Sept. 6 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Gathering Room. The first year of the project produced 30 quilts for cancer patients at Fairview Hospital, which sponsors the local parish nurse program.
Avon Recreation Department events:
The Little Flippers gym program, sponsored by the Avon Recreation Department, will have registration for the fall sessions at the Avon Parks Department, located on Schwartz Road by the park entrance. Registration dates are: Aug. 23, 9 a.m. to noon; Aug. 28, 6 to 8 p.m.; and Aug. 29, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A variety of gymnastics, cheerleading and dance classes are offered for children ages 3 to 12. An all-boys class for ages 6 to 9 will also be offered Wednesday evenings. For more information, call instructor Kris Sharer at 937-6945.
A Little Scientists program for children ages 3 to 6 will be offered at the Avon Community Center Mondays, Sept. 22 to Oct. 27, from 10:45 to 11:30 a.m., and Thursdays, Sept. 25 to Oct. 30, from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Students will experience the magic of science with a hands-on approach to learning. Cost is $63 for a six-week session. Children will complete a project and receive a class booklet in every class. To register or for more information, call the Avon Recreation Department at 934-3059
