Riding lessons: The Avon Recreation Department is offering several different riding lessons at Ponytales Farm, 10835 Avon Belden Road. For ages 2 to 5, a two-day Ponycamp Junior will be offered 4 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. May 15 and 22. Cost is $24. For ages 6 to 12, a class will be offered 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. four Wednesdays, May 7 to 28. Cost is $60.
If you would just like to spend a day at the stables to see if your child would be interested, riding lessons will be offered May 2 from 2:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. Camps will also be offered during the summer months. To register or for information, call Donna Russian at 934-3059.
Book talk: Join the Tuesday Afternoon Book Discussion Group at the Avon Library 2 p.m. May 22 as they discuss ''Seabiscuit,'' the novel made into a movie starring Jeff Bridges and Tobey McGuire.
