Book sale: The Friends of the Avon Library are holding a used book sale March 21 and 22 during regular business hours at the Avon Branch Library, 37485 Harvest Drive. Preview night will be 6 p.m. March 20. Donations may be dropped off at the library.
PTA seminar: Avon East PTA will offer the Ohio's PTA Seminar ''How to Help Your Child Succeed'' 7 p.m. Thursday at in the Avon Heritage School gymnasium. The free program is open to Avon community parents, grandparents, guardians and teachers.
Antique show: The annual Heart of Avon antique show will be March 23 at Tom's Country Place, 3442 Stoney Ridge Road, Avon. The show will feature 60 dealers displaying antiques, collectibles and furniture from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Booth fees for the show start at $45 for an 8-by-12-foot space. Attention science enthusiasts: Avon Parks and Recreation Department is offering interested children the opportunity to experience the magic of science through a curriculum developed by a team of Ivy League and Nobel Prize-winning scientists and early childhood educators.
Classes will be at the Avon Community Center, with session I Mondays March 3 to March 31, and session II Mondays April 14 to May 19. Class time is 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. and the fee is $55 for Avon residents and $60 for non-residents. All materials and supplies are included. To register, call 934-3059.
Eagles for sale: Celebrate Ohio's bicentennial by purchasing one or more decorated cast stone eagles (Avon schools' mascot) for $35. The eagles are being provided to the art classes of all schools in Avon grades three and up to decorate and be judged as part of the Spring Fling April 6.
The winners will be exhibited at the French Creek Nature Center during the bicentennial celebration. After judging, your eagle is yours to keep, display or sell. Make check payable to the French Creek Development Association, P.O. Box 111, Avon, OH 44011. Please enclose your name, address, phone number, number of eagles and amount enclosed.
Artists needed: Friends of the Avon Library will sponsor an adult art show at the Avon Branch Library during the month of May. Anyone interested in displaying their art work may call Sue at 934-6764.
Book group: The Avon Mother-Daughter Book Group will meet at the Avon Library 7:30 p.m. Feb. 25. The book to be discussed is ''Spilling Clarence,'' and copies are available.
Quilts makers: The next scheduled session of the Busy Hands Quilters of the Avon United Methodist Church will be on March 1, when the group will begin piecing. To this date, 16 quilts have been completed for the benefit of cancer patients at Fairview General Hospital. Additional quilters are always welcome. Call 934-5121 for information.
Garden club meeting: The Avon Garden Club will meet 7 p.m. tomorrow in the Avon Library. A special program featuring Devin Radke, of Avon Radke Green Houses, will be presented. Guests are always welcome.
Kindergarten information: Avon kindergarten information night is scheduled for 7 p.m. Feb. 25 in the Village School Cafeteria. All parents of children who will be 5 years of age by Aug. 1 should attend this program.
