All about baby-sitting: The American Red Cross and the Avon Branch Library will offer a baby-sitting basics course Oct. 4 and 11, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the library. Targeted for 11- to 15-year-olds, the course teaches ideas for fun and games, infant and young child-care, safety and infant and child first aid.
Participants must attend both sessions to receive American Red Cross baby-sitting certification. Cost is $35, which includes textbook and first aid kit. All students must pre-register by mailing in or dropping off payment to the American Red Cross, Lorain County Chapter, 2929 W. River Road N., Elyria 44035. Class size is limited, so register soon. No walk-ins accepted first day of course. For more information, call 324-2929.
Board meeting: The Avon Seniors Board will have a meeting at Avon City Hall Wednesday at 9 a.m.
Clambake and steak: Fr. Ragan Council 3269's annual clambake and steak roast will be Oct. 5, from 3 to 6:30 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Moore Road. A child's menu of hot dogs or hamburgers will be available. Cost is $18 per person. Takeout orders available. For more information, call Michael Abfall at 937-5338.
Photo IDs: Heinen's Fine Foods and the Avon Edward Jones office will host a KidCare Photo ID event Saturday as part of a national effort to provide parents with personal safety IDs of their children in the event that their child is ever missing. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Heinen's in Avon Commons. Parents can obtain free, standardized, high-quality photos of their children in a KidCare booklet, which they can also record information on each child. For more information, call 286-5484.
