Book talk: The Evening Adult Book Discussion Group will meet Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 7 p.m. at the Avon Branch Library. The book to be discussed will be ''Vanishing Act.'' Copies of the book are available at the library. New members are welcome. For more information, call 934-4743.

Seniors to meet: The Avon Seniors Inc. will have its monthly meeting Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 10 a.m. at Tom's Country Place, Avon. Entertainment will be provided by the singing group Raising Kane from Parma. Starting this September, they will be collecting non perishable food items for the needy which will be distributed during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Avon Recreation Department events:

A cholesterol and blood pressure screening, in cooperation with St. John Westshore Hospital, will be at Avenbury Lakes Lodge, 35400 Middleton Ave., Tuesday, Sept. 9, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. A talk will be given by Carol Rosing, R.N., cardiac rehab, about cholesterol management. There will be several different riding classes offered this fall through Ponytales Farm. Junior Pony Camp, for ages 2 to 5. Classes will be Wednesdays, Sept. 10 and 17 or Sept. 24 and Oct. 1 from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. or 3 to 3:45 p.m. Pony Camp, for ages 6 to 12, will be Wednesdays starting Sept. 10 to Oct. 1. For beginners, classes are 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. For the children who took beginners classes this summer, there will be a second level class on the same dates, but from 6 to 7 p.m. Cost for Junior Pony Camp is $24, beginners $60 and second level, $65.
