Summer camps: The Avon Recreation Department is sponsoring summer gymnastic and cheerleading camps, which will feature uneven parallel bars, beam, vault, floor and trampoline for recreational gymnasts. Children will be grouped by skill level. Other fun activities include parachute, ribbons, water balloons and many movement games.

Cheerleading camp will include tumbling, jumps, cheers, chants, dance and mounts. Gymnastic camp, for 4- and 5-year-olds, will be 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 4 to 6 at a cost of $50. For ages 6 to 10, camp will be 9:30 a.m. to noon July 28 to 31 at a cost of $80. Cheerleading camps for children entering first through sixth grade will be 9 a.m. to noon July 24 to 26 or Aug. 7 to 9 at a cost of $60. Cost of each camp includes a T-shirt. Bring a water bottle. Baby-sitting course: The American Red Cross and the Avon Branch Library are offering a baby-sitting basics course 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 7 and 14 at the Avon Library. Targeted for 11- to 15-year-olds, the course teaches ideas for fun and games, infant and young child care, safety and infant and child first aid.

Participants must attend both sessions to receive American Red Cross baby-sitting certification. Cost is $35, which includes a textbook and first aid kit. Students must pre-register by mailing or dropping off payment to the American Red Cross, 2929 W. River Road North, Elyria, OH 44035. Class size is limited. No walk-ins will be accepted. Senior stuff: The Avon Seniors will meet at 10 a.m. June 11 at Tom's Country Place. Providing entertainment will be the Gibson Girls. An Avon Seniors cookbook is now available for sale at the meetings or by calling Doles Barnhart at 937-6477. Cost is $8 for the book of 250 recipes. The group is open to seniors living in Avon over the age of 55.

Other activities will include golf and bowling. If you are interested in a golf outing this summer, leading to a league next summer, or would like to get a bowling league established, call David Fischer at 937-6486. Also, card parties and board games have been arranged at least once a month at the Community Center. Call Lee Walls at 934-6409 for information.

Book talk: The Adult Evening Book Discussion Group will meet 7 p.m. June 4 at the Avon Branch Library, with the topic ''Seabiscuit.'' Copies of the book are available at the library. New members are welcome.
