The Avon Historical Society: will meet at 7 pm on Monday, 10-6-03, in the Old Town Hall of 1871 at the corner of Detroit Rd. and Stoney Ridge Rd. Herb Rolland will discuss coins and history. Bring your special coins for Herb to evaluate. Also, bring your Avon ghost stories.
Garage sale: The Avon Junior Women's Club benefit garage sale raised nearly $600 with all proceeds going to support the local Adopt-A-Family program. Each year, AJWC ''adopts'' several area families, providing them with clothes, holiday gifts, groceries and other much-needed items. AJWC general membership meetings are the third Monday of each month, September through May, at the Avon Community Center at 2155 Eaton Drive. Anyone interested in membership information should call Kate Fairchild at 937-9993.
Library family night: Bring the family to Family Night at the Avon Branch Library, Thursday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m. The free program will feature activities, a story and a craft for the whole family to enjoy together. Refreshments will be served. Pre-registration is required by calling 934-4743.
Homecoming events: This is Avon High School's homecoming week and many events will be happening. On Thursday, there will be a community-wide parade and bonfire. The parade will start at Avon High School at 7 p.m. and conclude at Avon Middle School. The bonfire will follow at 7:45 p.m. The Avon Athletic Boosters have invited the community to come and support the parade and donuts and apple cider will be provided. The rally should finish by 8:30 p.m. For more information, call Avon High School at 934-5111.
Seniors meet: Avon Seniors Inc. will have its monthly meeting at Tom's Country Place, Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 10 a.m. Entertainment will be provided by the Avon High School Jazz Band. At this meeting those interested may sign up for the December 10 Christmas Party which will be held at the Avon Oaks Country Club. Cost is $16 per person. Also ''Pass It On'' will be collecting our gently used clothing and housewares, which includes blankets, towels, and linens. Call Jane Richard at 934-6944 for more information.
