The Avon Historical Society: will meet at 7 pm on Monday, 3-3-03, at the Old Town Hall of 1871, corner of Detroit Rd. and Stoney Ridge Road. Al Doane will give a slide presentation on the history of commuter rail in Lorain County.

Women's club to meet: The next meeting of the Avon Women's Club will be 7 p.m. March 10 at the Community Center on Eaton Drive. Speaker Deborah Cipriani, president of the Ohio Chapter of the American Domestic Skunk Association, will tell everything she knows about skunks and will actually bring some skunks to the meeting. Any women living in Avon who would like to join are welcome. Call Marge at 937-6616 for information.

Wreath project: Spring into spring with a spring wreath craft program at the Avon Branch Library 7 p.m. March 12. Cost is $8 for materials. To pre-register and pay, stop in at 37485 Harvest Drive. For information, call 934-4743.

March Magic fund-raiser: The Avon Junior Women's Club will have its ninth annual fund-raiser, March Magic, on March 29 at DeLuca's Place in the Park. Proceeds will benefit the Avon Band Boosters, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the Northern Ohio Down Syndrome Society, The Women's Fund of Lorain County and the Avon Junior Women's Club scholarship fund. Tickets are $35 in advance, which includes hors d'oeuvres, beer, wine and dessert and entertainment and dancing throughout the evening. Tickets can be purchased by any AJWC member of by calling 934-3252 or 937-5695.

Antique show: The French Creek Association is sponsoring its annual Heart of Avon antique show March 23 at Tom's Country Place, 3442 Stoney Ridge Road. The show will feature 60 dealers displaying antiques, collectibles and furniture from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Booth fees start at $45 for an 8-by-12 space. Door prizes will be awarded hourly. District shops will feature Spring Fling specials and events to coincide with the event. For information, call Julie Wolf at 934-0343.

Spaghetti dinner: Avon Knights of Columbus will have a spaghetti dinner 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at the hall, Moore Road. Dinner includes spaghetti, salad, rolls and beverage. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12. No reservation is necessary. Proceeds benefit the Religious Retirement Fund.

Book fair: The Avon Village School PTA will sponsor its Scholastic Book Fair tomorrow through March 11 at Avon Village School. Hundreds of books for children of all ages will be on display for purchase. The Book Fair will be open school days, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. You also can shop during parent-teacher conferences Thursday and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. March 11. Proceeds will benefit Avon Village School.
