Avon Historical Society: The Avon Historical Society will meet at 7 pm on Monday, 4-7-03, at the Old Town Hall of 1871, corner of Detroit Rd. and Stoney Ridge Road. Millie Arthrell will present the life of Theodore Rosevelt.
OPERATION HOPE: This is a grass roots effort to support our POW's and MIA's in Iraq and, hopefully, provides some comfort to their families. There will be a "Kick-Off" ceremony on Sunday, April 13th at 1:00 p.m. in Avon, Ohio at the Gazebo located on the corner of Routes 611 & 254 [Stoney Ridge and Detroit]. A six- week study of ''The Sermon on the Mount'' meets on Tuesday evenings at the Avon United Methodist Church from 7 to 9 p.m.
Friends of the Library meeting will be April 15 at 7 p.m. at the library. New members are welcome.
The Tuesday Afternoon Discussion group will meet April 22 at 2 p.m. at the library to discuss ''Seabiscuit.'' Copies are available at the library.
The Avon Garden Club will meet April 22 at 7 p.m. at Sandy Ridge Reservation, Lorain County Metro Parks. ''Introduction to the wetlands'' will be presented by Tim Fairweather.
Rummage sale: The Ladies Guild of Faith Lutheran Church are having a rummage sale April 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and April 25 from 9 a.m. to noon. There will be a large variety of items available, including a bake sale.
Moms and daughters: Mothers and their daughters in the fourth through eighth grades in Avon schools are invited to join the mother/daughter book group. The next meeting is April 22 at 7:30 p.m. at the Avon Library to discuss ''The Magic Paintbrush.'' Copies of the book are available.
Softball registration: Registration is now being accepted for Avon's adult co-ed softball league. This league is for adults 21 and over. Games are played Sunday evenings starting June 15 to Aug. 10 at Avon Veterans Memorial Park. Cost is $350 per team and includes softballs, umpire fees and shirts of 14 players. For teams to be eligible, five players must live or work in Avon. Deadline for registration is May 18. For registration forms or more information, call Donna Russian at 934-3059.
