Avon Historical Society: The Avon Historical Society will meet at 3 pm on Sunday, June 15, 2003, at the French Creek Nature Center on Colorado for a tour of the Burrell House and the dedication of the Burrell historic marker. Park at the Nature Center and go by bus to the Burrell House.

Gardener needed: Avon Oaks Nursing Home is in need of a perennial gardener who is willing to volunteer his or her expertise to make Avon Oaks a more beautiful place for the residents. Many plants have been donated for use. Avon Oaks is located at 37800 French Creek Road in Avon. Call (440) 934-5204 if interested.

Cookbook: The Avon Seniors have compiled a book of recipes called the Avon Seniors Cook Book, which is available for $8 by calling Doles Barnhart at (440) 937-6477. The Avon Seniors meet the fourth Wednesday of each month. Anyone over the age of 55 living in Avon is encouraged to attend and become a member. City-wide yard sale: The French Creek Association is hosting a city-wide ''Aunt Teak and Uncle Junque'' yard sale 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 28 and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 29. There will be flea markets, yard sales and sidewalk sales throughout the city, plus a rib and chicken barbecue 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 28 at the Old Fire Station at 36784 Detroit Road.

Riding lessons: The Avon Recreation Department is sponsoring pony camps and junior pony camps to learn beginning riding lessons and basic horse care through PonyTale Farms in North Ridgeville. Several classes and times are available for ages 2 to 5 and 6 to 12 during the summer months. To register or for more information on dates and costs, call Donna Russian at 934-3059.

Reading program: Come and discover the sights and sounds of Ohio's wildlife during a special Summer Reading Program 7 p.m. June 16 at the Avon Branch Library. The free program will be presented by Gary Gerrone, Lorain County Metro Parks naturalist.
