Spring Celebration: Avon's second annual Spring Celebration will be Saturday and Sunday at Avon's Old Town Hall. There will be a video presentation on Avon's history, raffle tickets donated by Avon merchants, and maps of the French Creek District shops. The shops are welcoming spring with extra hours, sales events, demonstrations, and special offers. The Spring Celebration is sponsored by the French Creek Association, Avon Historical Society, and the French Creek Development Association.
Seniors luncheon: The May 12 meeting of the Avon Seniors will be at Tom's Country Place at 10 a.m., featuring a spring luncheon. After the luncheon, there will be a style show presented by attending member from Dress Barn for ladies and Wal-Mart for men. Cost is $10. For more information, call Jane Richard at 934-6944.
Library puppet show: Preschoolers through second-graders and their families are invited to a puppet show presented by Nancy Sanders. ''The Man Who Kept House'' will be presented April 22 at 7 p.m. at the Avon Branch Library. The free program is sponsored by the library in celebration of National Library Week. Pre-registration is required; call the library at 934-4743.
Golf outing: St. Mary School is having its annual 4-person scramble golf outing May 8 at Avondale Golf Club. Cost is $60 per person and includes 18 holes of golf, cart, lunch, beverages, steak dinner, and prizes. Tee-off is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The steak fry will be at 5 p.m. and those not participating in the golf outing are welcome for $14.50 per person, which includes beer and wine. Singles and doubles are still needed to fill foursomes. Prizes and cash donations are welcome; all donations will be listed in the program. Baby-sitting course: The American Red Cross, Lorain County Chapter, and Avon Branch Library is offering a Baby-sitting Basics course Saturdays, April 17 and 24, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the library. Baby-sitting Basics, targeted for 11 to 15-year-olds, teaches ideas for fun and games, infant and young child-care, safety and infant and child first aid. Participants must attend both sessions to receive American Red Cross Baby-sitting certification. Cost is $35, which includes a textbook and first aid kit. All students must pre-register by either mailing in or dropping off payment to the American Red Cross, Lorain County Chapter, 2929 W. River Road N., Elyria, OH 44035. Place your bets!: The Avon Athletic Boosters Club is sponsoring ''A Night at the Races,'' Saturday at Tom's Country Place. Proceeds benefit Avon athletes in grades seven to 12. A buffet dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. Beer and wash will be provided. You're invited to bring any spirits and snacks. Races begin at 8 p.m. Corporate tables cost $160 and includes eight tickets (one table), advertisement in the program, free sponsorship of a horse (which you need to name), and recognition throughout the evening. Also offered is the Eagle Sponsorship, which costs $550 and includes all of the above, plus a horse in the final race.
