Historical society meeting: There will be a meeting of the Avon Historical Society at the Old Town Hall of 1871, corner of Detroit Rd. and Stoney Ridge Rd., on Wednesday, Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. The purpose of the meeting will be to bring members up to date as the society reconvenes after the summer break.

Book talk: Mothers and their daughters in the fourth through eighth grades are invited to join the Mother/Daughter Book Discussion Group sponsored by the Lorain Public Library System's Avon Branch Library. The group discusses a different book each month. The next meeting is tomorrow at 5 p.m. The book to be discussed will be ''Aunt Harriet's Underground Railroad In The Sky'' by Faith Ringgold. Copies of the book are available at the library. For more information, call the Library at 934-4743. The Avon Branch is located at 37485 Harvest Drive.

Library hours: The Avon Branch Library will be closed on Sept. 6 for Labor Day.

Senior news: The Avon Seniors will have a senior craft meeting on Friday at 1 p.m. at the Good Samaritan Nursing Center on Detroit Road in Avon. The project for this month will be lace doily angels. For more information, contact Pat Kolecki at 937-6922.
