Clambake: A clambake and steak roast will be served Sunday from 3 to 6:30 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus Father Ragan Council, Avon, at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 1783 Moore Road. The cost is $19 for either the clambake or steak dinner, and a children's menu will be available for $3. Beer will also be available.

Baby-sitting basics: The American Red Cross, Lorain County Chapter, and the Avon Branch Library, will offer a baby-sitting basics course this Saturday and Oct. 9 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the library in Avon. The course is targeted for 11- to 15-year-olds and teaches ideas for games, infant and young child care, safety and infant and child first-aid.

Participants must attend both sessions to receive American Red Cross baby-sitting certification, and the cost is $35 for a textbook and first-aid kit. Students must pre-register by either mailing in or dropping off payment to the American Red Cross, Lorain County Chapter, 2929 W. River Road N., Elyria, OH 44035. Class size is limited, and no walk-ins will be accepted on the first day of the class. For more information call (440) 324-2929.

Rummage/bake sale: The Ladies Guild of Faith Lutheran Church will have a rummage/bake sale Oct. 7, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Oct. 8 from 9 a.m. to noon at Faith Lutheran Church, 2265 Garden Drive, Avon. Fill a bag for $2 on Friday.

Avon Seniors: The Avon Seniors Inc. will hold its next meeting at 10 a.m. Oct. 13 at Tom's Country Place. Julie Leonard of Medicare will speak on medicare coverage and the new medicare drug prescription cards. A question-and-answer period will follow. Also, Pass It On will be there to collect gently used clothing or furniture. At the meeting, members are encouraged to sign up for the Christmas party which will be held at the Avon Oaks Country Club. The cost is $17 per person. There will be gourmet door prizes, and entertainment will be provided by Mae West. Interested parties must pay before signing up; you can make checks out to Avon Seniors, Inc.

Book talks: Mothers and their daughters in the fourth through eighth grades are invited to join the Mother/Daughter Book Group tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. at the Lorain Public Library System's Avon Branch Library, 37485 Harvest Drive, Avon. The group will discuss ''Julie of the Wolves.'' Copies of the book are available at the library. Call the library at 934-4743 for more information.
