Historical society meeting: There will be a meeting of the Avon Historical Society at the Old Town Hall of 1871, corner of Detroit Rd. and Stoney Ridge Rd., on Wednesday, Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. The purpose of the meeting will be to bring members up to date as the society reconvenes after the summer break.
French Creek meeting: The French Creek Development Association will meet Sept. 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Avon Lions Community Center, 2155 Eaton Drive.
Country Living and Antique Fall Festival: There will be a country living and antique fall festival on Sept. 11 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sept. 12 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the French Creek District Shops. There will be demonstrations of spinning, weaving and wreath making, entertainment and food. The Avon Branch Library will be closed Sept. 6 for Labor Day.
Celebrate Avon Branch Library building's 10th Anniversary Sept. 12 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. The event is free. Entertainment will include a magician, balloon sculpting, an appearance by the library mascot, Browser, and face painting. Refreshments will be provided by The Friends of the Avon Library.
Kindergartners through second-graders can sign up for Step Up Club. The program will be held Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. at the Avon Branch Library. Explore scientific concepts with stories, discussion, crafts and experiments. Preregistration is required by calling the library at 934-4743.
Sunday hours begin Sept. 12. Hours will be from 1 to 5 p.m.
Senior meeting: Avon Seniors Inc. will hold its monthly meeting at Tom's Country Place Sept. 8 at 10 a.m. After the meeting the group will hear a talk given by Inspector Sullivan of the Cleveland post office. Blood donations: The newly opened Avon Donor Center for the Red Cross, 2100 Center St., is taking blood donations tomorrow from noon to 8 p.m. Appointments preferred. Call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE to schedule an appointment.
