Historical society to meet: The Avon Historical Society will meet Wednesday, 10-6-04, at 7 p.m. in the Old Town Hall, corner of Detroit and Stoney Ridge roads. Kathrin Donnatucci will present a program on ''The Bicentennial Barns of Ohio.''

It's story-time: Registration is under way for Preschool Story Time, a free program for 3- to 5-year-olds who are not in kindergarten. Sign up for the weekly program on Mondays, now through Dec. 6, at 6:30 p.m. or 7:30 p.m.; Tuesdays, now through Dec. 7, (no story time on Nov. 2, Election Day) at 10:30 a.m. or 1 p.m.; or Thursdays, now through Nov. 11, at 1 p.m. The program features a variety of stories, activities and a craft. Preregistration is required; call 934-4743.

`Halloween and All That Jazz': The Avon/Avon Lake Rotary is sponsoring the Cleveland Pops Orchestra with the Avon Lake High School Chorale presenting ''Halloween and All That Jazz'' on Oct. 30 at 7:30 p.m. at the Avon Lake Ross High School Performing Arts Center, 175 Avon Belden Road, Avon Lake. Tickets are $25 through the Avon Lake High School, 933-6290.

Community Emergency Response Training: A class on Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) will be held Nov. 15 to 18 from 6 to 9 p.m. each evening at the Avon Fire Department, 36185 Detroit Road. The class is sponsored by the Avon Fire Department in conjunction with the Lorain County commissioners and the Lorain County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security.

Those interested can contact the Lorain County Emergency Management Agency at 329-5117 for an application packet. Trainees should be at least 18 years old, in good physical condition and must submit to a criminal record check.
