Veterans to plan programs
The Avon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7035 meets tonight at 8 in the post home, 36950 Mills Road. Plans for fall programming will be discussed.
Library closed tomorrow
The Avon Branch Library will be closed for staff training tomorrow, Friday, Oct. 15, however, will re-open for regular hours on Saturday.
Making a difference
Good Samaritan Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, 32900 Detroit Road, Avon, will hold 'You Can Make a Difference Luncheon' Thursday, Oct. 21, at noon at Avon Oaks Country Club, 32300 Detroit Road. Speaker Chuck Behrens, consultant of Pastoral Care, will discuss dealing with difficulties of visiting residents in long-term health care, entitled, 'The Message is There, Are You Listening?' Safe school rally set
The Sixth Grade Safe School Rally will be held at Avon High School Friday, Oct. 22, from 10 to 11:15 a.m. for local and county-wide sixth grade students.ÊA musical and humorous program will be presented by Karl Anthony, stressing a safer and happier lifestyle through awareness, particularly through choosing a drug-free activities.
Parents club garage sale
The Avon Preschool Parents Club will hold a garage sale Saturday, Oct. 23, at Avon High School gym from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is $1. Persons interested in a table to sell a collection of items or if you have questions, please call Sherry St. John at 937-9552.

Investment Club meeting
The Detroit Road Investment Club will meet next Sunday morning at 10:30 following the 9:30 a.m. worship service at the Avon United Methodist Church. The meetings are open to guests.
Book discussion group
A Book Discussion Group for mothers and their daughters, who are in the fourth through sixth grades, will meet Tuesday, Oct. 26, at 7:30 p.m. at the Avon Branch Library. New members are welcome. Pre-registration is required by calling the library at 934-4743.
Women's club to meet
The Avon Women's Club will hold a special meeting featuring Hixson Florists on Tuesday, Oct. 26, in Avon High School, at 7:30 p.m. There will be an admission charge of $7.50. The topic is entitled 'So You're Not Martha Stewart!'
Luncheon, card party
Avon St. Mary Altar and Rosary Society will sponsor a fall luncheon/card party on Wednesday, Oct. 27, at noon at Tom's Country Place, 3442 Stoney Ridge Road, Avon. Menu includes pork chops, stuffing, acorn squash, salad, apple torte, and beverage. Everyone is welcome, and the proceeds will be used for Altar necessities. Admission is $6. Craft tables available
St. Mary PTU is now accepting reservations for tables for the Craft Nook to be held Saturday, Dec. 4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost per table is $25. To make reservations or for information, call Pat Kozak at 934-6871.
