Birds of prey: The Lorain County MetroParks Carlisle Reservation will present a birds of prey program for the Step Up Club at the Avon library. The free program for kindergartners through second graders will be held Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. Preregistration is required by calling the library at 934-4743.
March Magic fund-raiser: Tickets are on sale for the Avon Junior Women's Club fund-raiser, March Magic, celebrating their 10th anniversary. The event will be held March 19 at Red Tail Golf Club. Public hearings: There will be public hearings on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, at 7 p.m. in Avon City Hall Council Chambers, 36080 Chester Road, before the Planning Commission. To be discussed:
amending the preliminary plat for Red Tail No. 11 subdivision;
modification to the master sewer plan for Nagel Road;
REZONING OF 35514 TO 35676 DETROIT ROAD FROM R-2 to C-3;
amending Avenbury Lakes Plat by splitting two parcels from Detroit frontage;
amending special use permit for Avon Fire Station;
special use permit for weather alert siren at Veterans Park;
amending the planning and zoning code to permit recyclable containers with a special use permit and accessory setback requirements.
Concert: The Avon Band Boosters will be performing Band a la Mode, a concert given by grades 4 to 12, Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. at Avon High School, 37545 Detroit Road. Tickets are $3 for adults, $2 children six and older and $2 senior citizens. Proceeds will be used for band supplies.
At the French Creek Nature Center:
Get hooked: Join the rug hookers in their monthly get-together tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Bring a lunch.
Kiddie Craft Club: Nature craft for preschoolers and their parents will be related to the Chinese New Year on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. Event followed by a dinosaur-themed movie at 11 a.m.
Fishing basics: Learn the basics of steelhead fishing in the Lake Erie Basin on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon in a program put on by the Backpacker's Shop.
Boating education: A course that meets the requirements of Ohio's Mandatory Boater Education Law will be held Feb. 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call by Feb. 16 and pay $25 at the door.
Scrapbooking: Scrapbooker Melanie McDougall will create baby pages with you on Feb. 19 from 1 to 3 p.m. Call by Feb. 15 to reserve a place. Cost is $5 at the door.
