AVON SAFETY TOWN:

As a community service, the Avon Village PTA is once again offering Safety Town for all children entering kindergarten in the fall. This will be held at Avon Village School, 36600 Detroit Road, Avon.

When your child enters school for the first time, he or she will be riding the bus or crossing busy streets on their own. It is very important that they learn bus safety rules and the correct and safe way to cross the street.

Safety Town is a controlled traffic situation where your child learns about common traffic problems and the safe procedures for boarding and getting off a school bus. After cruising on tricycles for a few days, your child will learn to become familiar with stop signs, cross walks, painted lines on the road and railroad crossing bars.

The first session of the program will be June 12 to June 16th, and the second session will be June 19 to June 23. Each session runs daily for two hours for a one-week period. There will be three time periods each session from which to choose: 8 to 10 a.m., 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or 1 to 3 p.m. The fee is $20 per child and is payable at the time of registration. Checks are made to the Avon Village School PTA.

You may register for Safety Town during Kindergarten Screening, March 20, 21 and 22 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Holy Trinity and St. Mary's students also may register at the Village School. Car-pool arrangements, vacation plans, and other important dates should be prearranged to make Safety Town a smooth and easy process.

Each child who participates will receive an Avon Safety Town T-shirt. The sizes are small (6-8), medium (10-12) and Large (14-16). They will be available for pickup during the first day of your child's session.

Safety Town is a fun-filled, positive learning experience for children. It is a great way to meet future classmates and make friends.
